Connect Four Rules
- Connect Four is played on a 7-column by 6-row board. Players take turns dropping discs into one of the columns. Each disc falls to the lowest available space in that column.
- The goal is to connect four of your own discs before your opponent does. A winning line can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
- In this version, the starting player is chosen randomly when you press Start Game. If you are playing against the AI, either you or the computer may make the first move.
- A round ends when one player connects four discs or when the board is completely full with no winner, which results in a draw.
Game Modes
- Two Players: Play against another person on the same device. Take turns dropping red and yellow discs into the board.
- AI: Normal: A casual computer opponent. It can take obvious wins and block simple threats, but it still makes some mistakes.
- AI: Hard: A stronger AI opponent that plays more carefully. It looks for tactical moves, blocks dangerous threats, and avoids simple traps.
- AI: Impossible: The toughest AI mode. It searches ahead, evaluates board positions, and plays much more strategically.
Strategy Tips
- Start near the center of the board. Center columns create more possible winning lines than edge columns, so they are usually more valuable.
- Watch your opponent’s threats. If they have three discs in a row with an open space, you may need to block immediately.
- Try to create two threats at once. A strong Connect Four tactic is setting up a position where you can win in more than one place on your next turn.
- Think vertically and diagonally, not only horizontally. Many beginners focus on side-to-side lines and miss diagonal wins.
- Avoid playing a column that gives your opponent an instant win. Before dropping a disc, check whether your move creates a winning spot for the other player.
- In advanced play, plan several moves ahead. Sometimes the best move is not the one that creates an immediate threat, but the one that forces your opponent into a bad response.a
